I have been watching all these years as an EU citizen the developments led by the EU affecting our lives and I have arrived to certain conclusions.
Though the initial idea was to increase our livelyhood as european citizens and set standards for each member country, I think I am not the only one to have noticed a few negative outcomes.
First of all the gradual stripping of our national identities. With the excuse of inclusion and the free economic movement amongst member states plus the arrival of an unexpected number of immigrants we are being pushed to put in second place our own individual member country religions and generally our national identities and give way to anything foreign. This is just a hypocritical notion that led to the frustration of the people in a huge way. So much so that we have uprising right wing parties based on this frustration alone. The immigrants (be it legal or not seem wiser than ourselves in this respect) they bring here and honour in a big way their own religion and customs as they should. What good is a people that does not remember and honour its past afterall?
In the EU << inclusion>> means we act as the adults who demonstrate self restrain and give way to the <<less mature people>> to stick to their way of life? Is this not an offenssive notion? The rest are not treated as <<adults>> and are allowed to act out on their beliefs? This european point of view is distorted and offensive.
Secondly, the gradual levelling of income standards ecc never came in the south of Europe. We suffer from low wages under the pretense we are always the most corrupted , the most lazy, we owe huge country loans ecc ecc. But to what have they condemned us really? Countries and people that try to make ends meet through very hard work unseen and unheard of in the rest of Europe, waves of people fleeding north for a better life and the corruption skyrocketing for those who decide to make a better living staying in their countries.
Thirdly, when I hear the words cartels, lobbies ecc I hear synomims of one big word MAFIA. What good is a Europe that lets mafia thrive and flourish like never before? Should they not protect us from such a development? Here in Greece we get street shootings in the day time more than ever before. I for one as an eu citizen want an end to all this. An EU that does not give way to such phenomena , an EU willing to use army force to defend public safety whether it means safety against poverty created by these cartels and lobbies or the very basic safety in the streets. Talking your way out of a mafia table EU is a dream notion but if you can pull it off then it is ok with me.
Another big issue is the abandonment of large common interest maintainance works that secure fresh water and our general safety. We get more floods than Noah in modern Europe and bridges that look worse than early historical ones. This means one thing only, money flows but NOT in the right direction.
These are only very few but major problems in modern Europe I wanted to comment on today and still hoping that some day common sense may prevail.
